Root Canal Treatment
If you are experiencing severe tooth pain, sensitivity, or swelling, you might need a root canal treatment! At Golden Proportions Dental Studio, we understand that the thought of a root canal treatment can be daunting. However, this common and highly effective procedure is essential for preserving your natural teeth and ensuring long-term dental health.
It is a dental procedure to treat and restore a severely damaged tooth. This treatment focuses on removing the inflamed or infected pulp from inside the tooth, which is then cleaned, disinfected, and sealed to prevent further issues. This process is also known as endodontic therapy.
The treatment procedure
Diagnosis
Our expert dentists use advanced imaging techniques to assess the extent of damage or infection
Pulp Removal
The infected or damaged pulp is carefully removed from the tooth’s interior
Cleaning & Shaping
The root canals are thoroughly cleaned, disinfected, and shaped for filling
Filling
The cleaned canals are filled with a biocompatible material called gutta-percha to seal them
Restoration
A temporary filling is placed to protect the tooth. Later, a permanent crown is usually placed to restore full functionality and aesthetics based on your needs
Benefits of Root Canal Treatment
One of the primary benefits of a root canal is the relief from severe tooth pain caused by infection or damage
The final restoration looks natural, maintaining your smile’s appearance.
Once treated and restored, the tooth functions like any other healthy tooth, allowing you to chew and speak without any issues
While the thought of a root canal might seem costly, it is often more cost effective compared to tooth replacement options

FAQ's
A re-treatment may become necessary in cases where a new decay is exposed. A cracked or a loose filling can expose the teeth to a new infection and also in cases where complete healing of the previous root canal treatment was not ensured.
Complicated, curved or narrow canals which went undetected and so were not treated in the initial treatment are one of the main reasons. Restoration with a crown before complete healing has occurred, improper crown fabrication, underlying gum problems left unattended are some of the other causes. At ClinicGP, we adhere to the smallest of details and hence complications are always put at bay and re-treatments rarely occur.
Yes. Tooth pulp consists of nerves and blood vessels. Pulp infection initially can be very painful but as the infection spreads and pulp begins to die, you would no longer feel the pain. In these cases you may be able to observe a gradual tooth discolouration also. However, the latent infection may re-surface at any time in the future causing more severe sequelae. It is advisable to reach your dentist before any kind of discomfort, sudden pain, facial swelling or oozing pus suddenly appears.
With the advancement of effective pain management techniques, root canal treatment is no longer seen as a harsh procedure and is treated without pain. You may experience tenderness and discomfort after the procedure for which you would be suggested medication and care.
Although all cases do not mandate the use of antibiotics and may be avoided, especially in the case of intentional RCTs or sterile RCTs, it is safest to follow the dentist’s medical instructions for the prescribed duration to avoid untoward complications.
Post the access opening which is the first step, you may be given an open dressing (with cotton or gauze) or a temporary filling (a cement). Follow all instructions to avoid pain and injury to the tooth and soft tissues. Following the single or multiple visit RCT, a permanent restoration is given after which the tooth is prepared to receive its crown if there is no pain or discomfort. This is usually done some time after the first visit. A set of radiographs are taken at different stages to assess the canals and to observe the treatment and its effect on the surrounding bone. Therefore, take note and follow all the instructions provided by our team to protect your teeth from any kind of damage, until it is totally restored. This includes food, medication and dental care as prescribed.
